Rose Lindo x Roommates Decor
Rose Lindo x Roommates Decor Wallpaper Collection is LIVE!!
Earlier this week, I got to check off a HUGE bucket list item. Before my husband and I headed to NYC in February of 2020 to exhibit at a licensing show, I'd sent off dozens of emails to potential buyers in hopes of getting a meeting with one of them.
Out of all the companies I sent messages to, only ONE person responded. This one person happened to be in charge of licensing for the oldest & largest wallpaper company in the United States - one that licenses work from artists like Joanna Gaines, Rifle Paper Company, and Candace Olson. To say that I was intimidated to meet with this company would be a huge understatement.
Whenever Nicole, the wonderful person I was lucky enough to land a meeting with, sat down at my booth in NYC, I was shaking with anxiety (and excitement, for obvious reasons). The meeting seemed to go okay, and Nicole sent her boss by the next day to snag my contact info.
Two weeks after getting back home, and the entire world (along with any dreams of partnering up with a manufacturing company) shut down completely. It seemed as if the odds were not in my favor to pursue a career in the surface design industry, but I couldn't help but continue to venture down the path I KNEW was right for me.
Eight months later, and a message from this company landed in my inbox.
It started off as expected, with a mention of how manufacturing had been shut down and how difficult things had been since the 'C' word came into play. I was fully expecting the message to end with something along the lines of, "We think your work is nice, but we're currently not taking on more artists right now."
To my surprise, this isn't how the message ended at all...
The company, called York Wallcoverings , was willing to take a chance on little ol' me & license five of my designs through their peel & stick brand, Roommates Decor. I couldn't believe it. As this collection rolls out, I'm still pinching myself in disbelief that this dream actually came true.
How my Dreams to Become a Surface Pattern Designer Came True
For my entire life, all I've ever wanted to be is an artist.
As a kid, my voice got drowned out by the sea of siblings who were much older and much louder than me, so I laid low and kept to myself most of the time.
When you're quiet, people tend to think you don't have anything to say or that there's something seriously wrong with you. What they don't realize is that, when you sit back and listen, you learn SO much about people and the world around you. You become an observer and become more in-tune with life's subtleties that are all too often overlooked.
One thing I've learned is that, if you love someONE or someTHING enough, it is ALWAYS worth pursuing.
